News: MS3 make shortlist for national award

Hull telecoms outfit MS3 have been shortlisted in the fixed urban networks category of NextGen 13’s Digital Challenge Awards. The awards programme which showcases the best in next generation digital access infrastructure innovation and runs alongside the annual NextGen Conference - the UK's leading event for Next Generation broadband activity.

Managing Director Tony Hales said the awards nomination highlights the great progress made by MS3 over the last couple of years with their project to provide Hull with an independent fibre network.

Tony said “It is a great honour to have made the shortlist for the fixed urban networks award and to be recognised alongside other organisations such as CityFibre and Hyperoptic who both have exciting projects going on in other parts of the country.

“We have been working hard on our project to provide Hull with an independent fibre network for a couple of years now and we have recently finished phase 1 of our network which stretches over 33km. We realise how important it is for a City this size to have the true resilience that comes from having more than one network available to businesses. The importance of this network should not be underestimated, not only does it generate much needed competition but also has a huge role to play in helping attract and secure major inward investment opportunities.”

Not content with just having a 33km fibre network across Hull and East Yorkshire MS3 are now aiming to kick on with plans to extend the network to a reach of 200km across the region, Tony Hales further commented.

“Over the next three years we will aim to extend the network so we cover around 200km of the area, it is important that we continue to grow and service the demand experienced in other parts of the city which currently have no fibre provisions.”

Having made the final six MS3 will now be expected to make a brief presentation at the NextGen 13 Conference at Wembley in October. The NextGen 13 Conference focusses on the latest themes and issues in the UK’s vibrant digital networks debate.
